Cabinet rejects boycott, says buy M'sian-made goods instead

Putrajaya has rejected calls of a boycott on products made by non-Muslims and is instead calling on citizens to support Malaysian-made goods.
“The cabinet, in its meeting chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, today agreed that efforts to boycott goods produced by non-Muslims in the country are inappropriate," the Prime Minister’s Office said in a statement.
The PMO added that the cabinet rejects such “narrow thinking and stand based on racial sentiments” by certain quarters, which it said could jeopardise national harmony and welfare.
“The rakyat is instead called on to support the buy Malaysian-made products campaign, as this can benefit the country,” the statement read.
Malaysia is facing ethnic polarisation over a number of issues, the latest being the alleged call for a boycott against non-Muslim products, especially on social media.
The call stemmed from a campaign for Muslim consumers to prioritise products sold or made by Muslim businesses. - Mkini
