Do business together instead of talking about boycott, advises deputy minister

Deputy Entrepreneur Development Minister Dr Mohd Hatta Ramli says boycott of non-Muslim products is not a ‘constructive strategy’.
KUALA LUMPUR: Deputy Entrepreneur Development Minister Dr Mohd Hatta Ramli today said the boycott of non-Muslim products is not a “constructive strategy” and it does not give Muslim businesses a good name.
Hatta said Bumiputera business owners should instead work hard to produce good products and have more confidence in the quality of their own goods.
“If you have a good product or service and you put it forward in a good way, people will appreciate it.
“But if you try to gain an upper hand by boycotting others, it doesn’t sound good for you,” he said on the sidelines of the Kuala Lumpur Sustainability Roundtable here today.
“Let’s be constructive and not destructive. Let’s work together, in fact, to do business together with everyone in this country.”
Hatta added that he was impressed by the number of quality products he saw at the National Entrepreneurship Week 2019 held last week.
He acknowledged the struggles of entrepreneurs in the B40 group, adding that much still needed to be done to assist them.
“That’s where the ministry can function. We can facilitate and help improve their products and their marketing and so on,” he said.
On the suggestion for SME funds to be consolidated under one ministry, Hatta supported the idea but said he did not see it being done in the near future.
He highlighted the need for a coordinated database shared by the relevant agencies and ministries.
“If we can’t have the funds under one roof, the next best thing is to coordinate the data.
“The various kinds of aid, business funds and loans should be integrated into a single database so we know who’s getting what. This will ensure there will be no misuse of this help from the government.” -FMT
