Ibrahim Ali: Putra to contest all Malay majority seats

KUALA LUMPUR: Parti Bumiputera Perkasa Malaysia (Putra) will contest all Malay majority seats in any future election, says its president Datuk Ibrahim Ali.
Ibrahim said the party will contest in all seats where the Malay voters make up 70% of the electorate.
He rubbished claims by certain quarters that the formation of a new Malay-based political party will further divide the community.
“If the candidates that were put forth for a seat by Barisan Nasional (BN) and Pakatan Harapan (PH) are both Malays, then Putra will also field its candidate there.

“Although it will be a three-cornered fight, in the end, the winner will still be a Malay. There is no issue of Malays being divided, ” he said.

Ibrahim said the party is not currently planning to join either coalition.
When asked if Putra would field a candidate for the Tanjung Piai by-election, he said this depends on the candidates that would be fielded by the contesting parties.
“If they all field non-Malay candidates there, we will also field our candidate, ” he said, adding that the seat comprises a significant Malay electorate.
He was speaking after launching his party in Kampung Baru, Kuala Lumpur, on Saturday (Sept 28), which was attended by more than 3000 participants.
Ibrahim said the party, which was officially formed on May 8 after being approved by the Registrar of Societies, was formed to combat “attempts to challenge the special privileges of the Malays” in the country.- Star
