Inquest into shootout will take place once all reports are in, says IGP

A CCTV recording shows a woman identified as Moganambal Govindasamy, who is said to be missing after a shootout with police in Batu Arang on Sept 14, 2019.
SHAH ALAM: Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Abdul Hamid Bador says the inquest into a shootout in Batu Arang in Rawang in which three men were shot dead will begin once forensic and investigative reports have been submitted.
Speaking to reporters after a forum organised by Sinar Harian and Sin Chew Daily here today, Hamid said it was not proper to rush the progress of investigations and forensic teams, because they have their own standard operating procedures.
“I have requested to have an inquest immediately so that we can avoid sabotage and exploitation from outside and justice can be served,” he said.
In the shootout on Sept 14, policemen claimed that the driver of a car defied orders to pull over, leading to a car chase. Police said the car crashed and they heard gunshots, forcing them to return fire and kill the three men.
Family members have alleged that Moganambal Govindasamy, wife of one of the victims, was also in the car but went missing after the shootout.
Two days ago, CCTV footage emerged, showing Moganambal leaving an elevator at The Henge condominium in Kepong, at 10.33pm on Sept 13, hours before the shootout, accompanied by the three victims.
“The timing on the footage is around 10 at night, while the (shooting) incident happened at 5.30am. We don’t know what happened between those times,” Hamid said.
He said that until 7am today, police had received seven missing person reports involving the missing woman, and they were looking into them. - FMT
