IRONIC OR NOT, CID CHIEF GOES ON WARPATH AGAINST THOSE WHO PLAY UP RACIAL ISSUES – YET MALACCA COPS GIVE ZAKIR NAIK THE GREEN LIGHT FOR BERSATU EVENT

POLICE have reminded the people not to play up issues that touch on the racial sensitivities of the plural society in Malaysia.
CID director Huzir Mohamed said the police would not hesitate to act according to the law against anyone who tries to undermine public order and national security.
In a statement today, he said several cases involving sensitive issues were being investigated under Section 505(c) of the Penal Code regarding statements made with intent to incite or which are likely to incite any class or community of persons to commit any offence against any other class or community of persons.
Investigations are also being conducted under Section 504 on intentional insult with intent to provoke a breach of the peace.

Huzir said the investigations under Section 504 included the case of preacher Zakir Naik, whose statement has been recorded by the police, who are awaiting further instruction from the Attorney-General’s Chambers.
“The case involving the independent preacher is about his alleged statements that Indians in this country do not support the prime minister and asking the Chinese to leave Malaysia.
“Apart from this, five individuals who made statements that caused public anxiety and anger towards Zakir are also being investigated and these cases have been referred to the Attorney-General’s Chambers for further action,” he said.
For offences under Section 505(c), two cases are under investigation – against Facebook account holder Wan Muhammad Azri Wan Deris for disputing the road rage incident that claimed the life of Syed Muhammad Danial Syed Shakir on August 10 and tycoon Koon Yew Yin for making a statement belittling the Malaysian armed forces.
“Police have recorded the statements of these two individuals and are still waiting for reports on digital analysis on case exhibits from the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC).
“These cases are also being investigated under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998. The investigation papers will be referred to the Attorney-General’s Chambers for advice and further instruction,” he said.
Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act deals with improper use of network facilities or network services.

Bersatu Malacca event OK since Zakir Naik not speaking, say police
MALACCA police are not preventing a religious meeting featuring preacher Zakir Naik from taking place on September 7 because he will not be speaking, state police chief Raja Shahrom Raja Abdullah said.
“There is no ceramah, so police will not stop the event. If there is to be a ceramah, they will have to get approval from the state mufti’s office,”   Raja Shahrom told The Malaysian Insight
The “Malam Islam Bersatu Bersama Dr Zakir Naik” event at Masjid Cina Krubong is organised by Paya Rumput assemblyman Mohd Rafiq Naizamohideen and was advertised on a poster, which was then circulated via WhatsApp and on social media.
The event is being held amid a police ban on Zakir from preaching on any platform pending police investigations into remarks he made at a ceramah in Kota Baru, Kelantan last month, where he allegedly offended Malaysian Hindus and Chinese.
Raja Sharom said the Bersatu rep had already sought police permission to hold the event.
“Paya Rumput assemblyman Rafiq contacted us asking if it is okay to have the event. As long as there is no speeches we (police) will not stop any religious ceremony,” he said.
Malacca Menteri Besar Adly Zahari last month said Zakir would be banned from speaking in the state after outcry at his speech in Kota Baru.
But Rafiq last night said Adly had agreed with the police’s decision.
Malacca exco member Kerk Chee Yee last night said although Zakir will not be speaking, he remains a controversial figure to many Malaysians and as such the “spirit” of the decision to bar him from speaking should be observed.
Zakir holds Malaysian permanent residency and resides here to avoid charges in his native India, where he is wanted for alleged money-laundering and inciting terrorist acts.
Putrajaya’s position is not to deport the controversial preacher on grounds that he will not get a fair trial in India, but has also warned him not to say anything that would jeopardise Malaysia’s race relations.
