Kelantan Menteri Besar Ahmad Yakob said efforts to unite PAS and Umno had begun since before the 2018 general election, despite past denials, but it was not fated by Allah to succeed.
Speaking at a ceramah in Pasir Mas, Kelantan, last night, the PAS deputy spiritual leader said they needed to first be allowed to see the loss of Malay power before unity between PAS and Umno could come true.
"Before the 14th general election, leaders were already working to form an understanding between Umno and PAS but Allah fated for it not to come to pass.
"But after the general election, Allah taught us again: to let BN feel what it means to become the opposition... to see how power held by Malays before this has changed hands and is controlled more by non-Malays," he said.
Also present at the ceramah were PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man and Umno deputy president Mohamad Hasan.
On Sept 14, Umno and PAS formally inked a charter to outline their alliance.
"It is to unite the voices of the people who want to see that the power of Islam does not disappear in this country that we love," he said. - Mkini
