Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad has downplayed speculation that PKR deputy president Azmin Ali may join his party Bersatu.
"He has not, he has not made any application (to join Bersatu).
"If he makes an application, then we will consider it," Mahathir said in a press conference after attending the Putrajaya Boat Race 2019 championships at the Putrajaya Lake Club today.
Speculation that Azmin may join Bersatu was rekindled after he made an appearance at an event to commemorate Bersatu's third anniversary on Thursday.
He had seemed to be the only Harapan representative there.
Mahathir, who is also the Bersatu chairperson, refuted this, saying that many prominent leaders from Harapan parties were also invited to the event, such as PKR vice-president Xavier Jayakumar.
"We called all the prominent leaders. Xavier came, many people attended," Mahathir said.
There have been speculations that Azmin may join Bersatu since last year, amid widening rifts within PKR.
However, Harapan leaders have always dismissed these speculations. - Mkini
