MIC asks DBKL not to approve running events, concerts in congested KL

The Federal Territory MIC has called on the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) not to give its approval for large-scale events such as marathons and concerts to be held in Kuala Lumpur.
Its chairperson S Rajah said such a move would help to avoid traffic congestion on weekends.
"I see, often, big events are held in Kuala Lumpur. For example, tomorrow we have a marathon where DBKL has closed 26 main roads around Kuala Lumpur.
"This will obviously affect traffic in the city centre.

"The event could have been relocated to Putrajaya or Bukit Jalil where the traffic situation is relatively modest," he said in a statement today.
Bukit Jalil and Putrajaya also have convenient public transport systems and ample parking, he added.
"Therefore, it will not be up to the participants to search for parking or to use public transport to attend these events.
"We are not against organising any entertainment or sporting events that are good for health.
"At the same time, the organisers and the City Hall need to take into account the difficulties of the city residents in facing their own traffic congestion when hosting big events," added Rajah, a former DBKL board advisory member. - Mkini
