Minister tells City Hall to find home for former clock tower man

V Kunasegaran maintained the iconic Sultan Abdul Samad clock tower at Dataran Merdeka for more than 40 years until his retirement in 2016.
PETALING JAYA: Federal Territories Minister Khalid Samad has instructed Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) to find a low-cost house for a retired clock tower caretaker whose story appeared in FMT on Thursday.
Upon reading the article, Khalid ordered DBKL to act on the request for a People’s Housing Project unit that V Kunasegaran submitted in 2014.
“I have asked the mayor to give him a house for rent,” he told FMT. “God willing, it will be handled swiftly.”
He said he gave the instruction on Thursday evening.

During his career, he received seven awards for excellence.
When he was hired in 1975, his take-home salary was RM146 a month. By his retirement, this had increased to RM2,700.
Two weeks before he was due to retire, he received a promotion that came with a salary increment of RM10.
When he submitted his PPR application, he asked for a unit in Semarak.
After getting a notification that his application was under consideration, he received no further communication from DBKL. - FMT
