PETALING JAYA: Amanah vice-president Mujahid Yusof Rawa has scoffed at a PAS claim that the party’s late spiritual adviser, Nik Aziz Nik Mat, had agreed to an alliance with Umno.
Mujahid said the claim by PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang was illogical. “How would he (Hadi) know that (Nik Aziz) agreed? Nik Aziz passed away before today’s charter was signed. It is remarkable that he is able to know if a deceased person would agree to it (the charter),” he told FMT.
Nik Aziz passed away in 2015. Hadi had said earlier today that Nik Aziz had agreed to it while he was still alive.
PAS and Umno signed a charter of alliance today, bringing together the country’s two largest Malay-based political parties.
Mujahid said Hadi’s claim was a desperate attempt to placate hardcore supporters.
Earlier today, at a press conference after the signing of the charter, Hadi said “ta’awun, or cooperation, is a term which had been agreed upon by Nik Aziz when he was alive because of the PAS-Umno cooperation since the 1970s. It had been discussed when he was alive.”
The matter had been discussed by Nik Aziz at a majlis syura (meeting), he said.
