PAS tells Mahathir to apologise to Anwar first

PAS has turned the tables on Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad, who had told the party to apologise to Umno for labelling it "kafir" before formalising their cooperation.
Vice-president Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah shot back, saying that Mahathir himself never apologised to PKR president Anwar Ibrahim before they worked together.
"Mahathir never apologised to Anwar even though many accusations were made, but now both of them can sit together and cooperate.
"So, what is the problem if PAS and Umno work together?" Amar told reporters in Kelantan today.

Mahathir previously admitted that he never apologised to Anwar. However, the PKR president said he never asked for an apology and is happy working with his former nemesis.
Yesterday, Mahathir pointed out that PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang had never apologised for calling Umno a party of infidels (kafir), ahead of both parties formalising their ties with the signing of a charter this weekend.
Hadi is accused of pinning the label on Umno during a speech in 1981 dubbed 'amanat Hadi' (Hadi's address).
In 2017, the PAS president said that only an excerpt from his speech was widely circulated, and that those who heard it in full had apologised to him.
Amar, however, maintains that PAS has never called Umno 'kafir'.
Instead, he said, PAS only explained that disbelieving and faith in God are based on scholarly teachings which apply to all, but this had been misinterpreted.
"It applies to all Muslims, including PAS... listen to our past speeches, because we spoke in terms of faith," he said.
As such, Amar stressed, there is no need for PAS to apologise for something it did not say. - Mkini
