The Perlis government has reacted warmly to the words of PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang who said that the party is ready to accept Umno as a partner of the state government.
Perlis Menteri Besar Azlan Man said Perlis would not have a problem if the coalition government between Umno and PAS was realised.
However, he said a policy decision on this should be made by both parties at the highest level.
"I have mentioned this before, that we have no problem inviting PAS to join the state government.
"At the moment, the coalition with PAS is in the form of civil cooperation, so we need a decision at the highest level of the party.
"This is just a statement of PAS presidential readiness, and we have no problem. But a policy decision is needed as to what the next step will be."
Yesterday, after signing the PAS and Umno charter, Hadi was reported as saying that PAS has plans to include Umno as part of the Terengganu and Kelantan state governments which are currently solely run by PAS.
"There are definitely plans, (Umno) is in our family," Hadi said during a press conference after Umno and PAS signed the joint charter at the Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC) yesterday.
However, Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said other issues such as electoral seat negotiations are still up in the air.
Meanwhile, Azlan said if the proposal was directed towards strengthening and solidarity it would be a good development.
"This means that we translate this cooperation not only into specific issues but also together in government administration.
"If that happens, I think it's a good development. And I really support it," he said. - Mkini
