Police probing Puteri Umno leader for linking Penang shooting to religion

Police will investigate the remarks made by Puteri Umno vice-chief Nurul Amal Mohd Fauzi by linking the shooting incident in Bayan Lepas, Penang to religious insults.
Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Abdul Hamid Bador said the probe was being conducted by Bukit Aman CID's prosecution and legal division (D5).
"D5 will check and investigate," Hamid was quoted as saying by Berita Harian.
At a ceramah in Kelantan on Wednesday night, Nurul Amal repeated allegations on social media that a man whom police shot, had gone amok allegedly after two people insulted the Prophet Muhammad.

She said he had died a martyr.
Her remarks came hours after Abdul Hamid had warned against the spread of false allegations regarding the case.
"Don't make such assumptions that will trigger unrest in society to create a perspective that a segment of society is oppressed by the other segment," The IGP said.
He said based on police investigations, they found that the man was heavily influenced by clips from the Middle East purportedly showing the plight of Muslims in the region.
On Monday, police shot dead the 25-year factory worker who ran amok, causing the death of a 47-year old female supervisor and injured a 53-year old security manager.
Penang police said the suspect is believed to have been suffering from depression for several months and had been absent from work for a week.
Penang Southwest district police chief A A Anbalagan said police who arrived at the scene told the man to surrender but instead attacked them with a parang, prompting the officers to shoot in self-defence. - Mkini
