Police year-end goal to bring back Jho Low too late, says Shafee

The promise to bring in 1MDB-linked businessperson Low Taek Jho, or Jho Low, by year-end by the police has not gone down well with the defence team in Najib Abdul Razak's criminal trials.
Najib's lead counsel Muhammad Shafee Abdullah said it would be too late if Low were to be taken in by then as the 1MDB and SRC International hearings against Najib would be nearing its conclusion.
He told reporters that the authorities should bring in Low as quickly as possible if they want to be fair to Najib.
"Today I heard the IGP said they will bring him (Low) by year-end.

"But by year-end, the trial is over. At least from the prosecution's angle, the trial is over. So, why do that?
"We are saying, you should bring in Low if you want to be fair to my client.
"We want to know from Low what had transpired. (There are) so many documents we can confront this witness (former 1MDB CEO Shahrol Azral Ibrahim Halmi) and Low, whether or not Najib is implicated in the conspiracy to actually defraud 1MDB," the lawyer said.
He said this at a press conference after the conclusion of today's 1MDB hearing session at the Kuala Lumpur High Court.
Shafee (above) was commenting on Inspector-General of Police Abdul Hamid Bador's statement today, where he said police have information of Low's whereabouts and they would be able to bring him in by year-end.
At the press conference, the lawyer appealed to the media to be careful when reporting testimony of Shahrol during the trial, claiming that there are many elements which are probably hearsay evidence.
He said as the trial judge has yet to make a ruling on hearsay evidence, members of the media are not guided on which evidence is admissible or not.
Shafee was referring to Shahrol's testimony since he took the stand on Monday, in which Shahrol heavily made reference to and quoted Low. - Mkini
