Puteri Umno vice-chief Nurul Amal Mohd Fauzi says that she did not endorse violence acts in giving a speech about the death of Sheikh Mohd Khairil but was merely offering a prayer for the deceased's soul instead.
Nurul Amal said this to Umno Online after it was alleged that she had issued false and racist statements in the aftermath of Sheikh Mohd's shooting death at a factory in Bayan Lepas.
"How can we agree with any actions that violate Islam and even humanitarianism?" she said.
"My statement was merely a prayer for the soul, and it is a practice for Muslims to pray for other deceased Muslims," she said today.
Nurul Amal went on to express her support for police efforts to curb the spread of fake news that could cause racial and religious issues to boil over.
"I hope that all the provocative statements on this issue will cease and irresponsible parties will not take advantage of the situation," she added.
This comes after Nurul Amal told a ceramah in Kubang Kerian, Kelantan on Wednesday night about allegations on social media that the man whom police shot had gone amok after two people allegedly insulted the Prophet Muhammad.
"Yesterday, a martyr was laid to rest. Sheikh Mohd Khairil was shot because he went amok in front of two kafirs who insulted the Prophet Muhammad," she was reported as saying by Malaysiakini in her opening remarks at a ceramah organised by Kubang Kerian PAS.
IGP Abdul Hamid Bador has warned irresponsible individuals who spreading such false allegations that his men in blue will be taking action against them.
On Monday, police shot dead the 25-year factory worker who ran amok and caused the death of a 47-year old female supervisor and injured a 53-year old security manager.
Penang police had stated that the suspect is believed to have suffered from depression for several months and had been absent from work for a week.
Penang Southwest district police chief A A Anbalagan said police who arrived at the scene had told the man to give himself up, but he instead attacked them with a parang, prompting the officers to shoot in self-defence. - Mkini
