A group of DAP women led by Seri Delima assemblyperson Syerleena Abdul Rashid has lodged a police report against a Kelantan Umno leader for allegedly trying to incite racial tension.
Speaking to Malaysiakini after lodging her report at the Northeast District police headquarters on Jalan Patani in Penang, Syerleena said Nurul Amal Mohd Fauzi's speech at a ceramah in Kota Bahru on the shooting incident at a factory in Bayan Lepas, Penang, could cause tension among the races.
During the ceramah organised by PAS Kubang Kerian, Nurul Amal, who is Kelantan Puteri Umno vice-chief, described the man shot dead by police as a "martyr" who defended Prophet Muhammad against insults.
"Nurul Amal (photo, below) comes across as someone who is blatantly trying to prove some level of political relevance by spewing hatred without checking facts.
"This is very irresponsible and such misinformation is very damaging to our country. This has to stop and lodging a police report is to prevent this from escalating," Syerleena said.
"We hope the police would thoroughly probe her actions and take the necessary steps to preserve peace and security in this country."
Syerleena said it was best for everyone to heed the advice of Inspector-General of Police Abdul Hamid Bador that the people do not speculate or make unnecessary assumptions that can incite racial tension.
Syerleena's police report comes after three men - two from Kedah and one from Penang - were arrested for spreading false claims about the Sept 23 incident on social media, where there is a heated discussion among netizens about the matter.
Accompanying her at the police headquarters were Sungai Pinang assemblyperson Lim Siew Khim and DAP Wanita organising secretary Gueny Koay Gaik Kee.
During the incident, police gunned down the factory employee, Sheikh Mohd Khairil, 25, who ran amok, and caused the death of a 47-year old female supervisor and injured a 53-year old security manager with a parang.
Hamid said police investigation so far revealed that the man was heavily influenced by clips from the Middle East purportedly showing the plight of Muslims in the region. - Mkini
The UMNO puteri excuse of a prayer for this incitement is laughable. Its clearly testing the resolve of the authorities to test the boundary. What the police waiting for ?
