KUCHING: Sarawak Chief Minister Abang Johari Openg has dismissed state DAP’s claims about Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) collaborating with PAS to topple the Pakatan Harapan (PH) in the state, describing it as “shallow” politics.
He also cleared the air saying that it was Terengganu Menteri Besar Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar who paid him a courtesy call and not PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang, who was just accompanying Ahmad.
“Hadi joined in the meeting because Ahmad was his former political secretary.
“And Ahmad paid a courtesy call on me because we had some issues to discuss concerning oil and gas matters.
“Anyway, I also had a meeting with PKR president Anwar Ibrahim, PKR deputy president Azmin Ali and Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
“So, what’s wrong if I did meet up with Hadi?” he told reporters here today.
Earlier, on Tuesday, it was reported that Hadi and several other top PAS leaders had paid a courtesy call on Abang Johari, three days after the Islamist party signed a historic charter with Umno.
Sarawak DAP chairman Chong Chieng Jen said the meeting between two leaders had confirmed the “unholy union” between PAS, Umno and Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) to topple the Pakatan Harapan (PH) government in the state. -FMT
