‘SAY ONE THING BUT DO ANOTHER’ MAHATHIR WARNS BERSATU TO LEARN FROM UMNO’S FATE – YET IRONIC OR NOT, OFFSHOOT BERSATU – ALREADY SEEN AS UMNO 3.0 – IS BUSILY EMULATING ITS ‘MOTHER’ PARTY

Bersatu chairperson Dr Mahathir Mohamad today called on party members to avoid being rejected by the people by learning from Umno’s defeat in the 14th general election.

He said Umno’s defeat should serve as a cautionary tale for parties and spur them to serve the country.

“Although we (Bersatu) are still young, we have defeated the oldest party. We (won) not just because of our strength and the support of the people, but because our opponent (Umno) has already been rejected by the people even though they were the ones who helped achieve independence.

“The party’s fate is something that we can learn from. We can learn from experience and from what had happened,” he said.

He said this during a prayer ceremony in Shah Alam today in conjunction with Bersatu’s third anniversary.

Also present at the ceremony were many top party leaders including president Muhyiddin Yassin, deputy president Mukhriz Mahathir, women’s chief Rina Mohd Harun, and many more.

PKR deputy president Mohamed Azmin Ali also attended the event.

Cheers of “Long live Tun” were heard during the prime minister’s speech.

The one-hour event ended with the cutting of a cake and pulut kuning after Mahathir gave his speech.

Meanwhile, Bersatu leaders were also reminded not to “worship” money and power if they wanted to maintain the party’s hold on Putrajaya.

Mahathir said the party’s cause must be based on the nation and race.

“We will not use money. We depend on the spirit of our country and our race to win the people’s support, not by throwing money at them,” he said.
