Inspector-General of Police Abdul Hamid Bador has expressed disappointment with those who hurl accusations against the police in regards to the Rawang shooting case where three men were shot dead.
In a media conference at Bukit Aman, Abdul Hamid urged those who are vocal about the incident to come forward and furnish evidence, or else, wait for the inquest.
For the record, the family of the slain G Thavaselvan claimed that the Sept 14 incident in Batu Arang was a "kidnap and murder" case.
"Irresponsible parties had produced numerous comments and accusations against police.
"I say, if (you) have evidence, come forward, or wait for the inquest," he said.
Abdul Hamid said his police officer had filed a report after allegations that the latter had claimed Thavaselvan's sister-in-law Moganambal was at the scene.
Her whereabouts remain unknown.
"There's also a clip uploaded on social media to give the impression that she was at the scene.
"I urge the public not to be influenced. If you don't understand, please refer to the police," he said.
Earlier, at a media conference at Serdang district police headquarters, Selangor police chief Noor Azam Jamaludin said police followed the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) when carrying their duties.
"We don't simply shoot people. We have SOP to follow. If there are officers who disobey the law, we would be the first to take action.
"When we are challenged, we have to defend ourselves. If possible, we want to capture them (suspects) alive so that we could obtain more information," Noor Azam said.
In the incident, Thavaselvan, S Mahendran, and Moganambal's husband V Janarthanan were gunned down by the police.
Janarthanan (above) held a British permanent resident status. He and his family entered Malaysia last month purportedly to visit a sick relative.
Police claimed that there is no record of Janarthanan's arrival at any of the country's entry points and that he was wanted for a robbery at a construction site in Sentul in 2016.
Noor Azam said in the incident, the men refused to stop for checks which led to a high-speed chase between them and the police.
He said shots were then fired towards the police and the police team returned fire, killing all three.
Police seized two semi-automatic pistols and three parang, among other items.
The family alleged that Moganambal went out for dinner with the three men a day before the incident took place.
However, Noor Azam said she was not in the car when the trio were gunned down in the shootout. - Mkini
