Thousands throng PWTC to witness historic Umno-PAS joint charter signing

Thousands of members thronged the Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC) today to witness the historic signing of the joint charter between Umno and PAS later this afternoon.
The PWTC building was packed to the brim on all floors with crowds dressed in white, red and green as the amal unit dressed in maroon tried to control and direct the flow of the crowd.
Every floor was full of people, to the point that it became hard to walk through the crowd, resulting in some yelling and shouting throughout the crowd.
However, things remained mostly calm as the crowd listened to the prayers preceding the speeches.

The crowd was also fired up each time a prominent leader arrived such as the arrival of former Umno president Najib Abdul Razak, current president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang.
PAS member Rais Kamarulzaman from Shah Alam said he was attending the event today to show his support the unity of the Muslim community and to uplift Islam.
"The pressure from non-Muslims has made us spirited and coincidentally, there is an agenda to mobilise the unity of the Muslim community.
"It seems like outsiders want to control us. We are rising to say that we will defend, not only our religion but for our nation as well," he told Malaysiakini.
Umno members Ramli Hamid and Hasidah Mansor said they came to PWTC today via group buses from Perlis and Permatang Pauh, Penang.
"We are very spirited for the sake of our Malay-Muslim community," said the 65-year-old Ramli, who came with his wife today.
"We Umno veterans are here for the fight.
"We are afraid that the issue of race is heading towards instability, and we are afraid of May 13 happening (again) so I am proud that PAS and Umno are uniting," said 52-year-old Hasidah.
Meanwhile, people listened to the speeches from PWTC's main halls and from screens placed throughout the building and its vicinity as the crowd spilt from the halls. - Mkini
