'We're just waiting our turn to present fuel subsidy paper to cabinet'

Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said today that the cabinet paper on the targeted petrol subsidy will be tabled as soon as possible.
"It's good. (We are progressing) according to schedule," he told a press conference after attending the I-Keep Carnival in Kuala Lumpur.
"A few weeks back, I informed the media that we were finetuning a few aspects, including on the implementation mechanism and recipient data. We have completed these.
"We have completed the paper and we are just waiting to present it to the cabinet, subject to the cabinet decision and amendment.

"This is a new policy and we have no experience in implementing it. Definitely, the cabinet members may come up with their own views and I must respect that," he added.
On Aug 20, Saifuddin was quoted as saying that the targeted petrol subsidy would be announced in two weeks.
The plan, unveiled under Budget 2019, entitles owners of cars and motorcycles with engine capacities lower than 1,500cc and 125cc respectively to subsidies of 30 sen per litre of RON95 petrol.
Putrajaya initially targeted implementation in the second quarter of the year. It is now understood that the subsidy will be rolled out by the end of 2019.
Saifuddin previously said that the subsidy would either be channelled into recipients' bank accounts or via a petrol card.
In June, the Malay Mail quoted a source saying that the government had decided on the former. - Mkini
