Zuraida: Reconciliation letters addressed to PKR president, not sec-gen

PETALING JAYA: It is not for the PKR secretary-general to reply to letters addressed to the party president, says Zuraida Kamaruddin.

"The letters were addressed to PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and not to the un-elected secretary-general (Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail), who holds the position on mere appointment," said the party vice-president.

She added that as such, Saifuddin's reply does not count.

She was responding to a statement on Monday (Sept 2) by Saifuddin, who shot down Zuraida's request for a reconciliation meeting between two factions in PKR.

Saifuddin had told the media earlier that anyone who wishes to reconcile with Anwar should attend the monthly PKR meetings.

Last week, Zuraida said that Anwar has yet to meet with key party leaders in an effort to reconcile with them, amid their absence at some party meetings.

“We have sent three letters to the president’s office, ” Zuraida had told reporters.

Zuraida then said Anwar responded to the first letter by saying he was going on a pilgrimage to Mecca.

“We then sent a second letter and a third, to ask for a meeting between the president and certain central leadership council members who were elected in the party polls, ” said Zuraida. - Star
