Attorney-General Tan Sri Mohd Dusuki Mokhtar said further investigations are ongoing after DNA from several men was found on case exhibits. DNA is the genetic material used to identify individuals.
"So far, after we returned the investigation papers to the police to be completed in order to identify the owners of the DNA, the police have yet to submit the findings of the investigation.
"We have not set a specific timeframe, but we have requested that the police complete this reinvestigation as soon as possible.
"I am unable to comment further at this stage on additional information or any other possibilities related to the investigation into the late Wan Ahmad Faris," he said when contacted by Berita Harian.
In December 2013, Wan Ahmad Faris found hanging in a toilet at the Maahad Tahfiz Sains Nurul Aman hostel in Kok Lanas.
His body was reported to have been discovered by a hostel supervisor after a foul smell was detected coming from the toilet.
A forensic expert who conducted the post-mortem confirmed the case as a sudden death with no elements of criminality.
However, in June 2016, the Coroner's Court ruled that Wan Ahmad Faris' death was caused by the actions of an unidentified individual.
In August last year, Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said that the police would reopen the investigation papers into the death of the tahfiz student.
Following the reopening of the investigation, a total of 37 blood samples were taken in connection with the case of the late Wan Ahmad Faris. - NST
