PKR MPs urge S'gor govt to buy back land near Ayer Hitam forest reserve

Subang MP Wong Chen and Petaling Jaya MP Lee Chean Chung have urged the Selangor government to buy back the land it had previously sold to a private entity near the Ayer Hitam Forest Reserve in Kinrara, Puchong.

In a joint statement published today, the PKR lawmakers reiterated their demands for Selangor Menteri Besar Amiruddin Shaari to disclose details related to the history and chronology of transactions relating to the 169 acres of land, which is believed to be slated for development.

“We urge the Selangor government to continue to engage us and fully disclose the chronological history and transactions relating to the 169 acres of land near the Ayer Hitam Reserve in Kinrara.

“The message we want to emphasise is the need for active and transparent engagement to resolve this matter amicably for the sake of the people in Kinrara and protect the environment they live in from further development,” they said in the statement published on Wong’s (above, left) Facebook page.

They also highlighted that Wong had issued a reminder to Amiruddin’s office on Jan 6 regarding the matter, and has yet to receive a response after 14 days.

This follows his initial letter sent to the Selangor menteri besar’s office on Dec 16, with Wong demanding the disclosure of details of the transfer of ownership over 169 acres of land near the Ayer Hitam Forest Reserve, which largely falls within the Subang parliamentary seat.

Community opposition

The day before, on Dec 15, he had demanded that the transaction price of the land be revealed, citing concerns over “possible acquisition costs that may ultimately be borne by taxpayers”.

He said this after receiving a petition signed by 3,752 residents opposing the development on the land.

According to him, representatives of residents’ associations had asked him to write to the state government to obtain the land’s chronology, as well as details of the transfer of ownership from Permodalan Negeri Selangor Berhad to the current owner.

Wong also previously said that residents wanted the state government to reacquire the land and re-gazette it as part of the Ayer Hitam Forest Reserve.

Land worth RM193m today

Meanwhile, in today’s statement, the PKR lawmakers explained that they have identified approximately 139 acres within the area, which the Selangor authorities had previously sold to Perano Properties Development Sdn Bhd.

The findings, they said, were based on their searches with the National Property Information Centre.

They include transactions for several lots purchased by Perano Properties Development Sdn Bhd on Sept 21, 2012 and sold by the Selangor state secretary.

Another lot, measuring 138.35 acres, had also been sold by Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated) to Perano on  Aug 5, 2019.

“We are of the view that the Selangor government should make an offer to buy back the lands at a price sold to Perano Properties Development Sdn Bhd, plus an annual compounded interest rate of eight percent.

“Based on that calculation, the value of the land for the 169 acres would now be around RM193 million today,” they said.

The MPs also explained that if the Selangor government is financially unable to repurchase the land, they would be willing to explore other options and solutions to settle the matter. - Mkini
