“Inspector Sheila” arrested again, this time in Thaipusam altercation with traders

INSPECTOR Sheila, suspended and charged in the past for disturbances, has been identified as the person arrested yesterday after allegedly causing a disturbance during the Thaipusam celebrations at Batu Caves.

Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail said the woman, whose full name is Sheila Sharon Steven Kumar, was detained under Section 186 of the Penal Code for obstructing a public servant in the discharge of duties and was remanded for one day.

“The arrest was made following an altercation between the woman and traders near the temple,” Khalid told reporters during a community policing programme held at the Sri Subramaniar Swamy temple in Batu Caves.

“We obtained a one-day remand under Section 186 for obstructing a public servant in the discharge of their duties, and Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1955 for actions intended to insult the modesty of an individual,” New Straits Times reported him adding.

Sheila was arrested at Batu Caves after a viral video showed her allegedly causing a commotion with traders around 4am.

In the clip, she’s seen in a black shirt and shorts being handcuffed by two female officers as onlookers watched.

Khalid said the case remains under further investigation.

In November last year, the police inspector was brought before Magistrate Aina Azahra Arifin on Wednesday (Nov 12) and charged with voluntarily obstructing a policeman, Lance Corporal Malvinderjit Singh Teerath Singh, 37, from carrying out his patrol duty.

The offence was allegedly committed in front of a restaurant in Jalan Sultan Azlan Shah, Dang Wangi, here between 8.15pm and 8.30pm on Nov 4. —Focus Malaysia
