KUALA LUMPUR: The FA of Malaysia (FAM) has dismissed allegations that it failed to present audited financial reports since 2016, saying its accounts have been tabled annually.
In a statement today, FAM said audited financial statements had been presented at every annual congress, including the accounts for the year ended Dec 31, 2025, which were tabled at the first FAM Extraordinary Congress on Thursday.
The national body said the accounts are reviewed by its Finance and Management Committee, approved by the Executive Committee (Exco), audited by local auditors, FIFA and the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), and subsequently submitted to the Sports Commissioner's Office.
However, FAM admitted there had been an oversight in presenting annual budgets for 2023, 2024 and 2025 after amending its statutes in 2023 to align with FIFA's recommendation that budgets be tabled at congresses.
The national body said it takes the matter seriously and is committed to ensuring future budget presentations comply with governance requirements.
FAM also cited its five-star ratings from the Sports Commissioner's Office between 2018 and 2022 and AFC recognition for governance and grassroots development as evidence of its commitment to transparency and accountability
The statement comes amid increased scrutiny of FAM's governance and financial management following recent calls for reforms within the national football body. - NST
