Any Israelis in Malaysia will be deported - PM; Dr M: Don't weaponise political ties based on Malay unity

‘Network School’

  • Malaysia will deport any Israelis found entering the nation, said Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim amid allegations that Israelis with dual citizenship are living at a tech commune in Johor’s Forest City.

Bernama quoted the prime minister as saying that action will be taken if Israeli nationals are detected here, as Malaysia has a clear policy against recognising Israel.

Affirming that relevant authorities are carrying out investigations on the matter, Anwar added that he believes Higher Education Minister Zambry Abd Kadir will explain the issue at a later time.

  • Forest City developer Country Garden Pacificview Sdn Bhd said it will “enforce its full legal and contractual rights” if probes by authorities establish any breaches involving the operations of Network School.

In a statement today, the developer said Forest City is prepared to extend its cooperation to facilitate authorities’ probes.

It added that Forest City reiterates its zero tolerance for any breach of the law, misuse of premises, immigration non-compliance, or activity that could jeopardise public safety, public order, or national interests.

Politics

  • Former two-time prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad warned that political cooperation based on Malay unity should not be weaponised to defend wrongdoings or to do “bad things”.

Referring to the recently concluded Johor election as an instance where Malay unity led to the return of “political strength”, Mahathir said such cohesiveness allows Malays to have the confidence to fight for the interests of their race without disputing the rights of other races.

As such, he said such unity should also be used to affirm the dignity of the Malays, Islam, and the sovereignty of their homeland.

While Mahathir did not mention any political parties or leaders in his statement today, he is understood to be referring to an apparent pact between PAS and BN during the state polls, which some quarters have credited for the latter’s decisive win.

  • Pakatan Harapan election director Amirudin Shari will chair a meeting tonight where the coalition is expected to develop a more organised strategy for the upcoming Negeri Sembilan state election.

According to The Star, Amirudin said Harapan’s campaign strategy will be tailored to the state’s political landscape, including increased efforts to engage young voters.

The Selangor menteri besar added that a post-election analysis after the Johor polls found that while Harapan continued to enjoy strong support among non-Malay voters, it experienced a drop in Malay voters’ backing. - Mkini
