Wawasan Negara eyes N Sembilan debut, hopes to bridge PN-BN straight fight against Harapan

Parti Wawasan Negara is hoping to make its debut in the upcoming Negeri Sembilan election, positioning itself as a strategic bridge builder to facilitate a straight one-on-one fight between the opposition and Pakatan Harapan.

Speaking on the party’s electoral strategy, Wawasan Negara secretary-general Saifuddin Abdullah confirmed that the party is eyeing a maiden entry into the state’s political arena, but stressed that they would adopt a highly pragmatic approach regarding the number of seats they will contest.

“We are being very careful. For example, on the number of seats - kami ukur baju pada badan sendiri (we must cut our coat according to our body),” he told Malaysiakini.

Saifuddin emphasised that Wawasan does not intend to go solo and outlined a strategy rooted in political cooperation.

The party aims to contest as part of a team under the federal opposition coalition, Perikatan Nasional.

Crucially, Saifuddin revealed that Wawasan Negara is also looking beyond its own coalition, aiming to build bridges between PN and other political factions outside the bloc.

When asked whether PN has initiated or struck an electoral pact with BN to ensure a unified front against the ruling Harapan, Saifuddin did not give a definitive answer but made clear the coalition’s preferences.

“The ideal situation for PN is to go for a one-on-one contest and avoid three-cornered or multi-cornered contests. In this context, Wawasan Negara plays the role of a bridge builder,” he explained.

Ganging up against Harapan?

PN is scheduled to reveal its candidates tomorrow at the Negeri Sembilan PAS headquarters.

Speculation is rife that a deal between PN and BN has already been struck, with observers eagerly waiting to see whether or not BN will declare candidates for all 36 seats tonight.

If it doesn’t, then this is a strong indicator that BN will at least avoid clashes with PN in some seats.

However, this arrangement is believed to exclude Saifuddin’s former party, Bersatu, which Wawasan Negara is seeking to supplant in PN. - FMT
