KUALA LUMPUR: Former finance minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz has denied receiving any personal financial benefit or donations from companies involved in the Jana Wibawa programme.
He said he was unaware that any of the companies nominated under the programme had made political contributions to Bersatu.
Tengku Zafrul said then-prime minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin had never informed him that firms proposed for Jana Wibawa projects had channelled funds to the party.
"I never received any contribution from the 54 companies listed in the letter proposed by Muhyiddin for the programme," he said in his witness statement.
"I also have no knowledge whether these companies had made contributions to any political party."
He is testifying in Muhyiddin's trial, which involves seven charges – four counts of abuse of power and three counts of money laundering linked to the Jana Wibawa project.
Tengku Zafrul added that he had no interest in any of the companies proposed and had never received any financial gratification from them.
He also told the court that Muhyiddin had never disclosed that Bersatu had allegedly received contributions from companies listed in the proposal sent to the Finance Ministry.
Muhyiddin faces four charges of abusing his position to obtain RM232.5 million for Bersatu, and three counts of money laundering involving RM200 million. - NST
