The prime minister says property prices in Johor Bahru have risen significantly, making it difficult for young people and new families to own homes.

He said property prices in Johor Bahru have risen significantly, making it difficult for young people and new families to own homes.
“Why is Johor slow in developing housing for the people? That is why I want change in Johor. We must focus on the lower-income group,” he said at a programme here ahead of next Saturday’s Johor state election.
“State planning must be improved. Only then can it be aligned with the federal government, and we must maintain cooperation and mutual respect,” he said.
Anwar said the federal government is implementing a more inclusive approach to housing development, including through the Residensi Madani programme, which aims to build tens of thousands of housing units for young people and low-income earners.
Anwar hints at allowance for Form 6 students
Anwar also indicated that an allowance for Form 6 students is likely to be announced in the 2027 budget.
He said the proposal was raised by education minister Fadhlina Sidek in Cabinet meetings, but declined to provide details as doing so may contravene the Election Offences Act 1954.
“I cannot announce more than that in Johor because it would violate election rules. But this matter was brought by the education minister to the Cabinet some time ago.
“I said to wait for Budget 2027, where I will announce good news,” he said when asked whether the government would provide allowances for STPM students.
In April, Anwar said the government was studying the possibility of introducing allowances for Form 6 students similar to those enjoyed by matriculation students – who receive a RM250 allowance each month.
He said the move is in line with the restructuring of pre-university education following the transfer of Form 6’s administration from the education ministry to the higher education ministry. - FMT
