Amirudin invokes 'Three Kingdoms', urges Johor voters to 'choose Liu Bei, reject Cao Cao'

JOHOR POLLS | Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari has turned to the Chinese classical novel “Romance of the Three Kingdoms” to illustrate the kind of leaders Johor voters should choose - someone wise like Liu Bei instead of the destructive Cao Cao.

Speaking at the “Prime Minister’s Engagement with the Chinese Community“ dinner in Johor Bahru last night, he said Selangor’s governance record was built on leaders who were capable, courageous and empathetic.

“If we classify leaders, you can choose to be a ferocious, arrogant, and feared Cao Cao, or you can become an excellent leader like Liu Bei, who is mature, wise, and capable of benefiting the public,“ the PKR vice-president said.

“For us to achieve victory, we must look for leaders like Liu Bei and a leadership line-up willing to work together to develop the nation.

“We must ensure that all leaders do not resemble the ridiculous and destructive Cao Caos out there,“ Amirudin (above) added.

He said Harapan sought to field responsible leaders who had learned from the mistakes of previous leaders and policies, while remaining steadfast in their principles instead of being “unfair or unjust.”

“We have learned how to recognise true friends; true allies do not fight each other, bicker, or constantly stir up division,” he said.

Not about skyscrapers, but people

Amirudin also praised Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, describing the Pakatan Harapan chairperson as a courageous leader focused on improving people’s lives rather than pursuing prestige projects.

He said that Anwar does not take pride in building the tallest or grandest skyscrapers, but instead focuses on implementing people-centric initiatives, upgrading schools, and eradicating poverty.

Amirudin also accused the opposition of exploiting racial sentiments and fear to divide Malaysians.

“Some people love to manipulate race relations and (use) the politics of intimidation, attempting to divide us and plunge us into turmoil,” he said.

He urged Malaysians to embrace inclusivity and mutual trust, stressing that Malays, Chinese, and Indians were equal citizens.

Amirudin called on Johor voters to cast their ballots for Harapan on July 11 so its successful governance model in Selangor could be replicated at the federal level and the rest of the nation. - Mkini
