Rafizi jokes Puad has switched 'portfolio' from Umno to PKR after Anwar embrace

JOHOR BARU: Bersama leader Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli took a swipe at Datuk Dr Mohd Puad Zarkashi following the latter's public embrace with the prime minister on Saturday.

Rafizi said the former Umno supreme council member's shifting political dynamics are confusing and difficult for the public to understand.

Puad had attended a Pakatan Harapan campaign event in Felda Ulu Tebrau here, which was also attended by coalition chairman Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

The Pandan member of parliament joked that Puad appeared to have "changed portfolios" from Umno to PKR, quipping that Puad had spent more time attacking him than many other PKR leaders in the past.

Rafizi and Setiawangsa MP Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad left PKR in May this year to join Bersama.

"We used to joke that Puad was the 'Minister for Rafizi Affairs'. Maybe he has now switched portfolios from Umno to PKR because I think PKR members criticised me more than Umno did.

"Perhaps he will continue with the same portfolio in PKR — criticising me," Rafizi told reporters after visiting the Kempas Permai People's Housing Project (PPR) here today.

His remarks came a day after Puad attended a youth dialogue with Anwar at Felda Ulu Tebrau, where the two greeted each other warmly and embraced on stage.

Puad had also publicly endorsed Pakatan Harapan candidate Mohamad Yazid Bakri for the Rengit state seat in a Facebook post.

Despite his light-hearted remarks, Rafizi said political realignments are part of the current landscape but insisted that ordinary Malaysians are more concerned about everyday issues than leaders' changing relationships.

"People don't really care who is fighting today or hugging tomorrow. What they want are solutions to problems such as drainage, rubbish collection, land and housing ownership, wages, rent and sewerage," he said.

He urged political leaders to focus on resolving issues affecting the people's daily lives instead of engaging in political manoeuvring that benefited only the elite. - NST
