Former Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin today said he prefers to be part of BN’s election machinery for the upcoming Negeri Sembilan polls rather than running as a candidate.
Speaking to reporters after launching the Seremban Umno Youth and Puteri meeting, the former Rembau MP explained he would have more freedom to assist the coalition's efforts to retake Negeri Sembilan by not being tied to any constituency.
“Personally, I would like to be an ordinary party worker for the Negeri Sembilan election, instead of being a candidate. This is better because I also just returned to Umno and I believe I can contribute as part of the party machinery,” Khairy (above) said.
When asked if he prefers to contest in a parliamentary seat instead, the former health minister dismissed the notion, saying it is still too early to speculate about the general election.
Earlier during the meeting’s launching ceremony, Seremban Umno Youth delegates unanimously agreed to a suggestion by their chief, Fadil Zin, for Khairy to represent BN in the contest for the Seremban parliamentary seat in the next general election.
Pakatan Harapan secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said that the coalition will make good use of former Umno leader Puad Zarkashi, who recently quit his long-time party.

Former Umno leader Puad Zarkashi and Pakatan Harapan chairperson Anwar Ibrahim campaigning for the coalition’s Puteri Wangsa candidate Maszlee Malik last night “I am in close communication with him, and we will capitalise on this, because I said he only needs to deliver on facts without making any conclusions or political commentary.
“The people can understand the actions he is taking,” Saifuddin told reporters. A transcript and recording of Saifuddin’s remarks were shared by his office. - Mkini
