SUBANG JAYA:
Claims that Pakatan Harapan has “done nothing” while in government have been driven by a lack of information, says DAP’s S Preakas.

Speaking at a fundraising dinner here tonight, Preakas said many critics had failed to recognise the government’s reform efforts because they were not getting the right information.

“Many have been talking in terms of negativity. They were saying, ‘Oh, Pakatan Harapan, it has done nothing,'” he said. “But the first thing you need to ask them is whether they have read the papers? Have they read the right source of information?”

He urged the public to rely on credible sources when assessing the coalition’s performance.

Preakas said the government had introduced a series of institutional reforms, even if some had yet to be fully implemented.

Among the reforms he cited were the proposed two-term limit for the prime minister and efforts to separate the roles of the attorney-general and public prosecutor.

“There is no prime minister who will tell you that they only want to hold the post for two terms, which is 10 years. But that reform is part of our manifesto and we have pushed (for) it,” said Preakas, who is MP for Kota Kemuning.

He said the term-limit proposal could not be passed because the proposal failed to secure sufficient support in the Dewan Rakyat.

Preakas said reforms would take time, resources and sustained political commitment. “What we need is a leadership which intends to bring about change,” he said. - FMT
