2027 budget to provide funds for Form Six allowances, says Anwar

PETALING JAYA:

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has confirmed that the 2027 federal budget will include funds for an allowance to be paid to Form Six students. Anwar, who is also finance minister, said the amount of the allocation has yet to be finalised and would be determined based on the government’s financial capacity at the time.

The budget decision comes four months after Anwar said in Johor Bahru that the government was considering extending to Form Six students the monthly allowances currently provided to matriculation students.

Speaking in a meet-the-people session in Bukit Mertajam, Penang, today, Anwar said: “Recently, during my dialogue with pre-university students, I said that from Year One to Form Five, there are allowances, and at university, there are allowances. But Form Six, pre-university students, do not receive any.

“So I would like to announce that in our budget in October, I will provide an allocation and allowance for Form Six students.”

Education minister Fadhlina Sidek said the proposed allowance was among 12 resolutions raised at a pre-university congress held in Klang this morning. She said the ministry had accepted all the resolutions put forward by student delegates and would study them for improvements, while also seeking ways to ensure the proposals could be implemented. - FMT
