PETALING JAYA:
A Ferrari F8, Porsche Macan, and Range Rover Sport were among 23 other luxury and high-performance vehicles seized by the road transport department (JPJ) in Kuala Lumpur today. Other vehicles seized included BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Audi, Volvo and Toyota Alphard models.

A Rohingya man driving a Honda Civic Type R was among three people found to be driving without a valid licence during the special operation held from Tuesday to Thursday.

Federal territories JPJ director Hamidi Adam urged vehicle owners, especially those with high-powered and luxury vehicles, not to consider the status or value of the vehicle as an excuse to ignore regulations, but instead to ensure that the road tax, insurance coverage, and driving licence are always valid before the vehicle goes on the road.

He said the Rohingya man, in his 20s, was detained after the vehicle he was driving was detected moving in a convoy with several other vehicles at the Setiawangsa-Pantai Expressway toll plaza.

“It is believed that the vehicle owner allowed him to drive the car,” he said in a statement today.

A total of 73 notices were issued during the operation, of which 39 were for expired motor vehicle licences, 30 cases without insurance coverage, three cases without a driving licence, and one case of displaying another vehicle’s registration number.

Hamidi said the special operation on luxury vehicles started in January. A total of 179 vehicles have been seized while 393 notices were issued. - FMT
