Police say the 56-year-old was a teacher at the primary school, where the offences allegedly occurred in the science laboratory and classrooms.
Mukah police chief Rizal Alias said the 56-year-old accused was a teacher at the school where the alleged offences took place, He said all the victims were pupils at the school, and the alleged offences occurred in the science laboratory and classrooms, Buletin TV3 reported.
“Police received a report on Aug 7 from a secondary school counsellor in Mukah after receiving a complaint from one of the victims. A team from the Mukah police conducted an investigation before arresting the teacher to assist with investigations,” he said in a statement today.
The teacher was charged at the Mukah sessions court under the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017. He was accused of making physical contact with a child for sexual purposes, and violating a position of trust.
The charges carry a maximum penalty of 20 years’ jail and whipping on the principal section, and an additional maximum five-year jail term and at least two strokes of the cane under a separate section.
The accused did not enter a plea. He was allowed bail amounting to RM20,000 with two sureties. - FMT
