BN heavyweights descend upon Lembah Pantai to woo cops

The inclusion of federal police headquarters Bukit Aman into the marginal seat of Lembah Pantai in the recent redelineation exercise has been a cause for concern for PKR.
Nurul Izzah Anwar, who narrowly defended her seat in GE13 with a 1,847 majority, previously complained that moving in 6,598 police voters will sour her chances for a third term.
Meanwhile, her former opponent - BN-Umno man Raja Nong Chik Raja Zainal Abidin - is back and has been pounding the pavement, doing walkabouts at markets and distributing aid to students.
Yesterday, he held a function at the Desa Aman police quarters (photo), where officers from the Bukit Aman, KL, Selangor and Lembah Pantai contingents live.
“It is around now (nearing elections) when your representative will be hardworking in coming here to distribute bread, vegetables and cakes. However, this is just ‘seasonal’.
“We are not ‘seasonal’ in our work...As BN representatives, we have continued to serve the rakyat,” he told a crowd of about 80.
Aside from Nong Chik, Federal Territories Minister Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor and Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi (photo) also attended the event.
Their arrival was warmly welcomed by KL police chief Mazlan Lazim, who said the support given by Zahid and Tengku Adnan to his force “would not be forgotten”.
“We will stand firm in our support for the sitting government.
“We will always work together with Datuk Seri (Zahid) to combat crime and to maintain the government of the day,” Mazlan vowed.
Zahid: Give Nong Chik a chance
Zahid, who oversees the police force in his capacity as Home Minister, was the main draw of the event. He placed his support firmly behind Nong Chik in Lembah Pantai.
“I hope Nong Chik will be given the chance to prove that he will serve the people of Lembah Pantai to his best ability,” he said.
Calling the audience his “anak buah” (close kin), he announced that the government will be repainting both apartment blocks in the Desa Aman quarters (photo) and installing four new elevators to replace the existing faulty units.
He further announced that all police barracks, police stations and district police stations across KL were to be repainted while the hall where the event was held was to be fixed with air-conditioners.
Amidst rousing cheers and applause, Zahid said this was proof that the federal government cared about the people.
Later, Zahid along with Tengku Adnan and Nong Chik joined Mazlan in posing for photographs as they painted a section of the wall of the police quarters. -Mkini
