Dr M nudges Harapan to choose its common logo

Pakatan Harapan has a week to decide on its common logo from amongst its component parties, said the coalition's chairperson Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

This is after the Registrar of Societies (ROS) refused to accept Harapan's registration as a formal coalition with its own logo.

"We have decided on a week's time for the next Harapan presidential council to decide on the logo that will be used to represent Harapan," he told a press conference at the opposition' leader's office in Parliament.

Mahathir, who is also Bersatu chairperson, had earlier chaired the Harapan presidential council meeting there.

On the electoral seat negotiations, Mahathir said the state seat distribution in Kedah, Negeri Sembilan, Federal Territories, Johor, Terengganu, Pahang and Penang have been resolved.

"Only three more states are not yet resolved due to small issues. They will be resolved soon," he said.

On a separate matter, Mahathir also announced Hindraf as its strategic partner.

Hindraf is presently led by P Waythamoorthy (photo), who had formally registered the organisation as Persatuan Hindraf Malaysia.

Mahathir said the organisation was recognised as a "strategic partner" instead of being taken in as a coalition component due to electoral seat allocations.

"We have four parties and each already has to contend with fewer seats in order to divide them among the four parties.

"So if we were to add a fifth component, it would create many problems," he said.

He said the strategic partnership arrangement provides a platform for organisations that are supportive of Harapan.

He added another possible strategic partner being considered is the NewGen Party. -Mkini
