GEORGE TOWN: Pakatan Harapan (PH) this evening announced the seat distribution for the 40 state seats it will be contesting in Penang in the 14th general election (GE14).
PH chief secretary Saifuddin Abdullah announced the seat allocation for its member parties during the 10th-anniversary celebration of the DAP-led state government in Penang, held at the Esplanade.
There were no changes to the state seats that will be contested by DAP, with the party set to defend the 19 seats it won in the 13th general election (GE13).
The 19 seats are Sungai Puyu, Bagan Jermal, Bagan Dalam, Berapit, Padang Lallang, Perai, Jawi, Tanjung Bungah, Air Putih, Pulau Tikus, Padang Kota, Komtar, Pengkalan Kota, Datuk Keramat, Sungai Pinang, Batu Lanchang, Seri Delima, Air Itam and Paya Terubong.

As for PKR, three of its seats have been allocated to PPBM. It will be contesting in 14 seats that it had contested in GE13.
“The seats are Pinang Tunggal, Telok Ayer Tawar, Seberang Jaya, Penanti, Machang Bubuk, Bukit Tengah, Bukit Tambun, Sungai Bakap, Sungai Acheh, Kebun Bunga, Batu Uban, Pantai Jerejak, Batu Maung and Pulau Betong.
“The four seats which have been allocated to PPBM are Penaga, Bertam, Teluk Bahang and Permatang Berangan,” Saifuddin said in his speech.
The Penaga seat was previously contested by PAS, which was then part of the now-defunct Pakatan Rakyat (PR).
Amanah, meanwhile, has been allocated the Sungai Dua, Permatang Pasir and Bayan Lepas — seats which were previously contested by PAS.
The seat allocations means that PPBM has been tasked with wresting four state seats, which are currently in Umno bastions.
Present this evening were Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng, PH president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, PPBM president Muhyiddin Yassin, PPBM vice-president Mukhriz Mahathir, Amanah president Mohamad Sabu, DAP parliamentary leader Lim Kit Siang, as well as other state PH leaders.
In the last GE, the then Penang PR government was returned to power after securing 30 out of 40 seats.
The remaining 10 seats were won by Umno.
In the 12th general election (GE12), the opposition pact was unexpectedly voted into power, winning 29 out of 40 seats it contested. -FMT
