IGP: No permit for Bersih, Red Shirts gathering at Parliament

No permit has been given to either Bersih or the Red Shirts group to gather in front of the Parliament building tomorrow, said Mohamad Fuzi Harun (above).
The inspector-general of police was quoted in news reports as saying that the police will be ready for any eventuality nonetheless.
According to him, neither side had requested for a permit to hold their protests.
"We will take appropriate steps and monitor (the situation) to ensure nothing happens," he reportedly told journalists after attending a function at Bukit Aman today.
Fuzi said security measures were being put in place and are not meant to cause problems but to ensure Parliament's security adding that police would do "anything necessary" to control the situation.
Last Saturday, Bersih announced that it will hold a demonstrationoutside Parliament and hand over a memorandum to Speaker Pandikar Amin Mulia objecting to Election Commission's redelineation report which is scheduled to be tabled tomorrow.
Red Shirts leader Jamal Mohd Yunos (below, with spectacles) has threatened to mobilise some 5,000 Red Shirt members to counter the Bersih gathering tomorrow.
Fuzi said some 30 police officers will be stationed at the Parliament building to keep tabs on the situation to make sure no one breaks the law.
Earlier today, Jamal lodged a police report against the Bersih gathering at the Dang Wangi police station saying it was aimed and causing chaos.
"Their aim is to cause chaos, disrupt harmony and the most worryingly, to try and stop BN MPs and even the Prime Minister (Najib Abdul Razak) from entering Parliament.
"The opposition bloc, led by Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, will be in the Dewan (Rakyat).
“We, as Malaysians, hope the opposition will use the proper platform as parliamentarians to voice their protest instead of taking to the streets," he said. -Mkini
