Federal Territories Minister Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor has dismissed Selangor Menteri Besar Mohd Azmin Ali’s accusation that the federal government - specifically Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak - is responsible for the water cuts in the state.
“They would fault everyone. They will point their fingers.
"It’s like when we want to build something, they would accuse me of all sorts of things.
“We are doing things for the people. They don’t care about the people; they are just looking after their own interests,” Tengku Adnan (photo) told reporters after visiting a new multi-storey car park at PPR Pekan Kepong and a nearby wet market.
Repair works at the Sungai Selangor Water Supply Scheme Phase 3 (SSP3), operated by concessionaire Syarikat Pengeluaran Air Sungai Selangor Sdn Bhd (Splash), had caused a disruption to water supply in the districts of Petaling, Klang, Shah Alam, Gombak, Hulu Selangor, Kuala Langat, and parts of Kuala Lumpur last week.
Although repair works were on track to be completed ahead of schedule, restoration of the water supply was delayed when its surge vessel system burst on Tuesday.
According to Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor (Syabas), restoration works are now 91.7 percent complete as of 7am this morning.
When asked yesterday whether the Selangor government is to blame for the water cuts, Azmin quipped, "If you dare, blame the prime minister.”
This is because the Selangor government had yet to acquire Splash from the federal government, putting the current situation beyond its control.
He said the two parties have until July to complete the acquisition, and the state government cannot maintain water facilities in the interim.
"So if it is not our asset, how do you expect us to move into those facilities to conduct the maintenance?" he had asked. -Mkini
