Tourism and Culture Minister Nazri Abdul Aziz is known for not holding back when it comes to a confrontation, be it with allies or foes.
And true to form, the Umno lawmaker dealt another blow to MCA, calling it a “crybaby”.
“When has MCA not lashed out at Umno?
“They can hit us. When we hit back, they become afraid and meet the prime minister. This is like a crybaby,” Nazri told Malaysiakini today.
The Padang Rengas MP also pointed out that he was training his guns on billionaire Robert Kuok and not MCA.
“I did not 'hentam' (slam) MCA, so why must MCA meddle (in the issue)?” he asked, adding that none of his statements had touched on MCA president Liow Tiong Lai (photo).
“I attacked (MCA) because they attacked me. What does MCA think it is? Does it consider itself to be the 'golden child' (anakemas) in BN?
“They talk about BN spirit... they can attack, but we cannot (retaliate),” he added.
Nazri also defended his statement that it is DAP and not MCA which represents the voice of the Chinese community at present.
“I said the voice of the Chinese after the 2013 general election is DAP. Is that wrong? I am friends with DAP because I respect democracy.
“I want to carry out tourism work in Seremban and in Penang. These are DAP areas. I cannot leave them aside,” he said.
Describing himself as a junior minister, Nazri said there is no reason to feel threatened by his remarks.
"That means, compared to MCA, I'm so strong lah," he quipped.
Nazri and MCA leaders locked horns after the Umno minister launched a vitriolic salvo on Kuok, who was accused by blogger Raja Petra Kamaruddin of bankrolling DAP.
He also challenged the 94-year-old billionaire, who is based in Hong Kong, to contest in the coming general election.
Kuok and DAP have denied the allegation.
MCA leaders accused Nazri of doing them and BN a disservice, claiming that the minister's attack on a respected business magnate would irk the Chinese community and benefit DAP.
They also pointed to Nazri's friendship with Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng.
Yesterday, Liow claimed that there are those in BN colluding with external forces against MCA. -Mkini
