AZIZAH OR NURUL IZZAH TO CONTEST IN PANDAN? MOST LIKELY, SAYS RAFIZI

KUALA LUMPUR – PKR vice president Rafizi Ramli today hinted at two probable candidates that would contest for the Pandan parliamentary seat in GE14.

He told reporters that the two candidates will most likely be PKR president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail or her daughter Nurul Izzah Anwar, who is the incumbent Lembah Pantai MP.

“Pandan is relatively a safe seat for us, we have strong base of supporters there.

“There is still one week for us to finalise our candidates but there have been rumors, like Wan Azizah and Izzah, so they may just as well be true,” he said, adding his potential successor would most definitely be a woman.

Rafizi will not defending his Pandan constituency in the next polls after being sentenced to 30 months’ jail in February for exposing the bank account details related to the National Feedlot Corporation Sdn Bhd and its chairman Dr Mohamad Salleh Ismail.

Rafizi said this was all a part of the party’s strategy to put senior leaders at “safe seats” so they can provide reinforcements to other hot seats.

“There are some leaders who need to fight for a tough seat but we know they have to do what they have to do. But once they agreed to a fight, they are grounded there and cannot lend assistance elsewhere.

“By fielding Wan Azizah or Nurul Izzah who are both senior party leaders at a safe seat, they can still go to the ground and help others campaigning,” he said.

The courts have granted a stay of execution, pending an appeal, to Rafizi which allows his sentence to be put temporarily on hold.
