An image of a letter from the Insolvency Department about Yaakob Osman's status is posted on Anwar Ibrahim's Facebook page.
PETALING JAYA: PKR today questioned the Election Commission’s decision to disqualify a PPBM candidate on grounds that he was a bankrupt although a letter by the Insolvency Department had shown otherwise.
An image of the letter, dated April 27, 2018, was posted on the Facebook page of PKR de-facto leader Anwar Ibrahim. It states that Yaakob Osman, who is head of Nibong Tebal PPBM, is not an undischarged bankrupt.
“Strange, but not impossible under the Umno/BN government,” the Facebook post read.
Yaakob was disqualified yesterday from contesting the Penaga state seat in mainland Penang, while in Johor, PPBM’s candidate for Bukit Pasir, Pizi Jihat, was also disqualified on similar grounds.
Pizi said he, too, had checked on his insolvency status and confirmed that he was no longer listed as a bankrupt. However, the returning officer said EC checks had shown otherwise. -FMT
