Bersatu not fielding Wan Saiful in Titiwangsa, claims source

GE14 | Speculation had been rife that former founding chief executive of Institute for Democracy and Economic Affairs (Ideas) Wan Saiful Wan Jan would be named as Bersatu's candidate for the Twitiwangsa parliament seat.
However, a party insider revealed that during a meeting last week, a bombshell was dropped.
Bersatu's women's wing (Srikandi) chief Rina Harun was named as the candidate for the seat, whose incumbent is caretaker finance minister II Johari Abdul Ghani.
"It came as a shock to everyone who was present at the meeting,” a source told Malaysiakini on condition of anonymity.
“My jaw dropped when Wan Saiful's name was not mentioned for the Titiwangsa seat.
"Wan Saiful has a better chance against Johari. With this decision, we have just given a free pass to BN to retain the Titiwangsa seat," added the source.
Malaysiakini understands that Wan Saiful would be given another parliament seat but the top leaders have yet to make a decision on this.
When contacted, Bersatu's policy and strategy bureau chief Rais Hussin declined to comment on the matter.
Wan Saiful, on the other hand, said he would abide by the party's decision.
“I do not wish to comment on this matter. But the decision regarding seats and candidates is up to the leadership. I would continue helping the party,” he told Malaysiakini.
Wan Saiful officially joined Bersatu on March 1.
He was appointed as a member of the party's supreme council and deputy chief of the policy and strategy bureau.
In the 2013 general election, Johari Abdul won the Titiwangsa seat with a slim majority of 866 seats. - Mkini
