GE14 | BN has played up remarks made by DAP veteran Tan Seng Giaw that there was nothing in the Public Accounts Committee report on the 1MDB scandal which implicates caretaker prime minister Najib Abdul Razak.
In an apparent attempt to counter Pakatan Harapan’s attacks against Najib on 1MDB, the official BN Facebook page today shared a 1 minute, 32 second-long excerpt from a video interview with Tan, where he reiterated a statement he first made in April, 2016, while a member of PAC.
“There is the PAC report, which until today has not been made public… But I looked at in detail.
“It was found that the main blame lies with 1MDB’s CEO at the time,” said Tan, who maintained his reported views on the matter.
While it is unclear who conducted the interview, the video identifies Tan as a former Kepong MP.
DAP only announced on April 9 that Tan would be dropped as Kepong candidate after eight terms, to be replaced by incumbent Segambut MP Lim Lip Eng.
This led to speculation that the decision to drop Tan was made due to his controversial statement, which Najib has personally used to defend himself against critics.
Since the announcement, Tan had also been widely interviewed by BN-friendly media outlets, including the New Straits Times and Berita Harian.
Just days prior, Tan noted that he was still interested in defending the his seat he has held since 1982 in the coming polls.
Tan, who will be celebrating his 76th birthday next month, had also insisted that he was still strong and able to help the people in Kepong. - Mkini
