GE14 | A group of non-Malay residents from Wangsa Maju has threatened to send their votes opposition’s way if BN chooses to field an MCA candidate there in the coming general election.
Instead, they are urging the ruling coalition to field Wangsa Maju Umno division chief Mohd Shafie Abdullah once more.
“If you (BN) field MCA (candidate), we will vote for the opposition. How he (MCA) treats us, that is how we will treat him,” a representative of the residents, Jimmy Liu, said at Flat Danau Kota today.
During the press conference, some 50 residents were seen holding up placards which read “Voters pledge full support for Datuk Shafie to be PII6 Wang Maju candidate” and “Full support for Datuk Shafie”.
Shafie had contested in Wangsa Maju in the previous election in 2013, but lost to PKR’s Tan Kee Kwong in a 5,511-vote defeat.
Liu today claimed that the MCA had sabotaged Shafie’s chances of winning in the last national polls.
Even so, he said that did not stop Shafie, who is also UDA Holdings Bhd chairperson, from assisting those who needed help, irrespective of race.
“If he is named candidate, he will solve all problems. Even when he had lost the (last) election, Shafie maintained (assisting the residents).
“(Shafie) helps the Chinese and all races. I can be a witness to that. The residents here come to me when they have problems and Shafie helps them from the heart,” Liu said
