Businessman conned of RM100,000 in non-existent land deal

The victim has yet to receive his deposit back despite being told that the deal had fallen through.
KUANTAN: A businessman with a Datuk title lost RM100,000 after being duped by a man into buying a non-existent piece of land in Chini, Pekan.
Pahang CID chief Supt Mohd Wazir Yusof said the 54-year-old victim received the offer from the 35-year-old suspect on Dec 25 last year.
“The suspect told the victim that there was a tin mine in Chini for sale at RM1 million because the contractor could not pay the tin mine company owned by a Datuk.
“The victim was interested in taking over the tin mine and handed over a deposit of RM50,000 in a cheque on Dec 29, and another RM50,000 by cash believed to be paid through a third party to the land company,” he told reporters here last night.
After two months, he said, the victim was informed by a third party that the land owner would be returning the deposit for failing to meet the land sale agreement.
To date, however, the victim has yet to receive back his deposit. This led him to lodge a police report on the matter.
The case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code. - FMT
