Don't let gov't fall to the opposition, 'expired leader', Najib urges

Civil servants should be 'wala' (loyal) to the government and ensure that Putrajaya does not fall to the opposition, Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak said today.
In a vow at the end of his speech to them today, Najib said the civil service will also be protected, no matter how hard the government is attacked by an "expired leader".
"We are the friends of the government, the main pillar of the country. We will not let go (of the government) to the opposition, who are like api dalam sekam (a hidden threat).
"No matter what, even if we are continuously attacked by an 'expired leader in his twilight', we will not allow it.
"Even if we are ground to a paste, smashed into pieces, we will continue to fight for the dignity and interest of civil servants and defend the government," Najib said.
Najib was speaking at a gathering of civil servants at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre.
It comes as the nation braces for the dissolution of Parliament, which Najib hinted would happen in a day or two.
In his speech earlier, Najib also took jabs at Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng and the Selangor government.
He mocked Lim over the Penang undersea tunnel project, which he said "had yet to be completed", as well as Lim's singing of an anti-goods and services tax (GST) song in front of schoolchildren.
"Leave him be with his antics, but we the government will continue to strengthen the educational institutions and the educators in this country," Najib said.
As for Selangor, he poked fun at the water cuts last month, saying "leaders get ballots, the people get buckets".
Najib also repeated his allegations that Pakatan Harapan intends to trim down on the civil service as per a 2016 Penang Institute research paper. - Mkini
